ZINGER the Zebra is here!
The Glass Lady is showcasing one of 150 Zany Zebras currently grazing across the city of Southampton from 16 July to 25 September 2016. This project has been rolled out by Marwell Wildlife to raise awareness for the conservation of Grevy's Zebras. These amazing sculptures will eventually be exhibited together at The Ageas Bowl between 14-17 October before being auctioned for charity on 18 October.
I wouldn't mind one of these on the front lawn actually. Our Zinger the Zebra was designed by Shirley Warren Primary and Nursery School. He has been hugely popular with children already, attracting many sticky handprints across our window! There is an official Trail Map where you can see every Zebra in the City, we have leaflets in the Shop or you can find out more at zanyzebras.org.uk
Have a look if you can... there are some incredible designs that show great flair and imagination. We hope that you will be able to come in and say Hello to Zinger. And us too!Read more...
Ever since The Glass Lady first began in 1984 with the legendary Betsy Bragger operating a market stall in Plymouth, we have offered unique Hand Drawn designs. Betsy combined her whirlwind of artistic energy and incredible people skills to create Hand Engraved Glass that our loyal customer base are still returning for.
Today at The Glass Lady shop in Southampton, we have the strongest Team of artistic Engravers yet. Much of the Glass Engraving you can find online is produced by computer. The beauty of what we do is entirely by hand. Whilst we can produce Corporate Logos by Stencil, we can also create one-off designs on Glass.
I'm going to show you a Case Study of an order produced earlier this year on the Boston Decanter shown top left, utterly plain and ready for engraving.
The Decanter shown to the right here has been mapped on with my trusted Sharpie permanent marker in various colours to assist the engraving. Mapping on is the truly labour intensive part, the actual engraving doesn't take so long. But this is the crucial stage of visuallising the design on Glass. There was a highly complex crest and a fair sized inscription in the Italic script to space out on here.
The important thing to bear in mind with bespoke engraving is that the recipient of this item will already be quite familiar with the image. There are no shortcuts with our designs, just the task of conveying the image to the utmost of our ability. We take our job very seriously because we love it and want to exceed expectations!
The next job is to actually engrave the Decanter. Bearing in mind that the Engraving Machines are on the Shop Floor, the rest of the Team will guard the Engraver to ensure minimum disruption. It's like having your own security personnel!
Shown to the left is the Decanter fresh out of the Engraving Machine and still with the ink on. The engraving is white frosted and permanent. We clean off all of the ink and often apply a silver paste to the engraving to highlight the lines for presentation purposes.
The finished item is then ready to be ribboned and set in it's Presentation Box. Shown below is the end result. The customer very kindly allowed me to use these images and also provided the following review. Lovely chap!
Dear Glass Lady Customer,
Welcome to the first of many Blogs to keep you informed of all things Glass Lady. Thank you to all who have kickstarted our Website Reviews in such a positively glowing manner.
The weather has finally turned for the better and Wedding Season is truly upon us. We take all manner of Wedding orders including to and from soon-to-be Brides and Grooms so we have a fair idea of the planning involved in such occasions. I liken it to putting on a West End Show because of the pressures that can surround the leading Man and Lady. Being a genuinely friendly team here, we do learn a great deal from just listening and I think it is fascinating.
Over the years, we have accomodated various deadlines but being a Same Day service for the most part, we can be super quick. Would you believe that once we engraved a Gift for a Best Man to take to the Wedding Ceremony en route? Naturally the female members of staff were screaming on the inside!
I can tell you that the most popular Gifts that we sell to give for a Wedding are Photo Frames and Champagne Flutes.
Every year, we buy in new lines to give our customers the best possible choice of Gift. We have some absolutely gorgeous new additions to our range of Wedding Gifts and favours. The Best Selling lines can all be viewed in under our Glassware Catalogue.
For example, the Silver Plated Mr & Mrs Champagne Flutes at £35.00 shown above. The Small Diamante Conical Heart Vase at £45.00 shown here on the right. Also the Hanging Glitter Heart at £4.00 shown below. All prices are correct at this point and include VAT.
A really lovely idea for a Wedding Gift is to Hand Engrave entwined initials. We often reverse the initials too on a pair of Flutes so that each person feels that they have their own glass.
Every engraved Gift is completed with a flash of satin ribbons in your choice of colour and it's a perfect finish to match Wedding colours. We can also provide our Gift Wrapping to complete the service.
I engraved the Wedding Flutes for one of my colleagues here and it was fantastic to see the happy couple toasting with them on the Big Day. After the meal, the staff of the Hotel put the flutes away behind the Bar and you've never seen me so frantic to retrieve them safely! My dear friend has kept them safely with Wedding Day lipstick stains and champagne residue still intact.
We have been ever so busy here introducing New Lines across the Catalogue and keeping the Shop sparkling for your shopping pleasure. It's nearly End of Season for Football and we are producing many Awards for Managers, Coaches and outstanding Team Members.
I hope that you have been enjoying the sunshine and I'll endeavour to post another Blog soon.
Bye for now,
